WESLEY METHODIST CHURCH Caerphilly

Tuesday 17th March 2020

Dear Church Stewards, Pastoral Team and Members

It is with sadness that I inform you of the Methodist Church in Britain advice that churches suspend worship services until further notice.

See https://www.methodist.org.uk/about-us/coronavirus-guidance/ for latest guidance as of 3pm today.

There will be no Sunday or other gathered worship services at Wesley Caerphilly Methodist Church, effective from today. I can find no grounds to do other than follow the Government advice of 16th March, and the guidance from the Methodist Church for our community; a considerable number of whom are categorised as vulnerable be reason of age, illness or other medical condition, and/or are carers of those who are vulnerable. Many church members will be asked to self-isolate for many weeks by the weekend if they have not already chosen to do so.

No gatherings or meetings will take place at Wesley or elsewhere for church related matters without clear risk assessments being made prior to these taking place.

The Methodist Church has given some advice on funerals, baptisms and marriages, and further guidance will be given in due time.
We will need to ensure maintenance and any building works required can continue to be done. We will need to figure out how to make church related decisions as we go along.

Where does this leave our church family?

Well as we close down the church building and the meetings we usually have, we need to open ourselves up to what we can do, how we can be community, keep in regular contract, sustain our worship and our spiritual wellbeing and share news, stories, and ideas, and continue to support each other.
In the meantime the Methodist Church in Britain is to produce a weekly service sheet which will be found on a page of the Methodist website dedicated to worship during the coronavirus pandemic

.
By the grace of God we have faith, a faith that justifies us and holds us fast in these difficult times. We may not know the way ahead or see the end of this yet, however we do hold the glory of God within us, the light of the world, the good news of the love of God, revealed in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

May God give you his peace, protect you in the shelter of her wings, watch over you and your families, and bring you safely through.

In the love of Christ

Alana
