Our church was founded at the turn of the twentieth century partially funded from the Methodist Centenary Fund hence our official name Century Methodist Church.
We usually have a morning congregation of between 30 and 35 which has a good age spread although it is weighted towards retired members. We have a small number of children aged 5 to14 who don’t always appear in church at the same time but Junior Church is always available for them. However whatever their age people join in most things that are going on in the church
Llanishen are as follows:
Kids Club
On Wednesday during term time we have a club available for children from 4-14 years.
This is run from 6.15-8.00 pm so that the youngest and oldest groups have some time for their own activities.
House Groups
We have a fortnightly evening house group which is run roughly on cell group lines. We also have a monthly daytime group meeting in the morning and ending with lunch. This follows a preplanned programme largely devised by the group members.
Bring a Friend to Church on Tuesday
This is a monthly evening event organised by the stewards with the idea of encouraging church members to bring friends and neighbours along to a varied programme which includes liturgical services (Lent, Advent etc) guest speakers, quizzes and church based entertainment.
Saturday Morning Coffee
The church is open every Saturday morning for tea coffee and conversation. Books, jams and sometimes plants are available for purchase at this time. We encourage the supporters of the young football teams playing at the end of the street to come in.
Churches together in Llanishen and District
We have strong links with the churches together in Llanishen and District especially with the Baptist Church with whom we hold joint Christmas Day and Good Friday services. Churches together have a “Quiet Garden” which is situated in our church grounds. Quiet Garden services and meetings are therefore held at our church.
Communications
The refurbishment of our hall and vestry and reroofing the church has reenergized us. It has involved much fund raising which always acts as a focus but we have had a “Come as you are” course and also “Fresh Expressions” which has encouraged us to look outward to the neighbourhood around and how we can best serve it. A Nursery operates in the hall in the mornings and the hall is let out to other organisations and for birthday parties. We encourage our neighbours in Melbourne Road to use the hall whenever practical, as we did for the Royal Wedding.
We maintain a website where church history and up to date information can be found.
