Dear Friends,
I saw a sketch once which began with a Church Youth Group Leader announcing that the following week it would be their Harvest Festival celebration and the young people should bring something appropriate to the occasion. He didn’t think they were really listening ….
Then a couple of girls came in awkwardly, giggling ..and wearing one vest! They said they thought he’d meant it was a fancy dress evening with an
‘Our Vest Festival’ theme -
and thought they had dressed appropriately!
In the next scene – the following week - a boy arrived wearing an unusually long scarf. When he was asked why, he said he thought it was a
‘TARDIS FESTIVAL’ that evening
and so he’d come as Dr Who..!

‘At least you’re close’ said the exasperated Leader, ‘Harvest Festival does mean OUR BEST. It means we celebrate all that God gives us - and we give back to God the best we can’.
Finally a couple of lads came in wearing wellies and carrying a variety of camping items – supposing that it was going to be a celebration of
‘OUR BEST FESTIVAL – which for them was Glastonbury!
For some of us that might be our eagerness… even if it is for Dr Who and the Tardis.
It might be working together ….. though I don’t think we need to be wearing the same vest to do that!
It might be a festival like Glastonbury or Greenbelt –
but it is a celebration of OUR BEST of God’s beautiful creation.
Who’d be a Youth Leader?! ……
Actually I’m rather hoping that someone will volunteer to help soon in our
Youth Club which has been held at Wesley
for the past 66 years on a Friday night
–We are struggling for help –
and the volunteers who are there do not want to give up on the 30 or so youngsters who attend
* and actually they really enjoy being there anyway!
* Can you help? Or do you know someone who could?
