Whitchurch Methodist Church opened in 1895. Since then, the church has been enlarged and refurbished, most recently in the last ten years. The church hall was largely rebuilt in the 1990’s and includes full catering facilities. Morning worship takes place every Sunday at 10.45am with refreshments after the service. Details of other services can be seen on the notice board outside the church entrance. The church is available for weddings, baptisms and funerals as required.
Whitchurch are as follows:
JUNIOR CHURCH.
We have a Junior Church which meets every Sunday morning. The children do a range of activities including presentations and plays in the main church.
J CLUB.
Our youth activity is centred around Little J’s (age 5-8 years) and J Club (age 8-11 years) which meet in the church hall on Tuesday evenings for a range of creative activity.
RAINBOW GUIDES .
On Friday evenings Rainbow Guides, (girls aged 5-7), meet in the church hall .
LUNCHEON CLUB.
We provide a full meal for senior citizens on Mondays from 11.00 am in the church hall enabling fellowship and company for all. Transport is provided for those who require it.
PARENTS AND TODDLERS.
On Wednesday mornings, parents and toddlers meet in the church hall. Mums have a chance to socialise while the children play together. Refreshments are available.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.
The church hosts concerts by local choirs and music groups, details are published on the notice boards outside the hall.
The hall is used on the regular basis by several local groups including Kumon, the St Albans Band and the NHS Baby Clinic and is available for hire.
Other groups using the hall include local hospital charities, whilst the church also hold events throughout the year raising money for various charitable causes.
It is planned to open a Coffee Shop, run by the Innovate Trust, in the near future to provide employment for adults with learning difficulties and to function as a facility for the local community. It is our hope that this will provide a ‘space’ in the evening and at weekends for us to engage in outreach events working both ecumenically and with other churches in the Methodist Circuit.
